Nathan Thompson Lecture
Nathan Thompson Lecture
April 26, 2004, 12:00 am

Nathan runs the independent lighting design company called The Flaming Beacon P/L, which is located in Melbourne. The practice does not sell equipment and has no ties with equipment sellers or manufacturers.

The company is compact - Design Director, Office Manager, three other Lighting Designers plus support staff. The majority of the current work is in international architectural lighting consulting, primarily in the areas of hospitality and tourism, while still maintaining involvement with projects in areas of art, performance and education. This mix of work has seen projects in Europe, North and South America, the Caribbean, Australia, the Middle East, South Africa, and many East Asian and South East Asian countries.

Nathan taught lighting design at Melbourne University for several years. He has made lighting design workshops at RMIT in Melbourne, at the HfG school of design at ZKM (Centre for Art and Media) in Karlsruhe Germany and at the Universities of South Australia and Adelaide. He has presented lectures in Australia, Germany and Taiwan to various groups including 1500 graphic designers at the AGIdeas conference in 2000
