Banyi Huang 黄半衣 (they/them) is an artist wrestling with the cyclicality of return across different registers: 3D worldbuilding, performance, and storytelling. Their work often begins with iteration, using software or other mediated processes to give form to mythological or ancestral beings. These beings are then brought into motion through performance, gesture, and preprogrammed systems.

Banyi has presented work at the New Museum, Smack Mellon, Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute. They have been an artist-in-residence at BRIClab, and a member of NEW INC’s Art and Code Track. Born in Beijing, they have spent a decade in New York before relocating to Los Angeles.
